Supporting residents, enriching lives

We’re an independent Scottish charity working alongside Bandrum Nursing Home to enrich the lives of the people who live there — through the activities, experiences and equipment that ordinary care funding doesn’t cover, and by keeping residents connected to the world around them.

Our mission

The people we support are funded from their own resources or by local authorities from across the UK, and those budgets vary enormously. We don’t think a person’s quality of life — their chance to paint, to get outside, to join in — should depend on how generously their placement happens to be funded.

So that’s where we step in. Friends of Bandrum raises money to provide the extras: recreational activities, outings, creative projects and equipment that enhance residents’ welfare and well-being, on top of the care the home is contracted to deliver — never in place of it — so that everyone shares in them equally.

Our aim throughout is to support people while protecting their independence, choice and dignity.

How we help

Experiences open to all We make sure activities, outings and special occasions reach every resident, so no one misses out because their funding is tighter than the person next door. Where a resident can’t afford something that would benefit them, our small grants — made on the recommendation of care staff — help close the gap.

Accessible woodland paths

Getting outdoors

The home sits in woodland with sea views, and we want every resident to enjoy it. We’re raising funds to help make the woodland paths usable by residents in wheelchairs.

Specialised equipment

Equipment that widens horizons

We’ve funded interactive touch-screen tables that let residents with limited mobility join in activities. A local bike club has specially adapted bikes  and residents love these regular visits.

Creative activities & events

Creativity and purpose

We hold fetes and art fairs so that residents can display and sell what they have made. This gives them real pride and a sense of contribution.

Community integration

Connection, not isolation

We bring the community in — local school pupils, volunteers and neighbours — and help residents take part in life beyond the home, because feeling part of society matters as much as any single activity.

About Friends of Bandrum SCIO

Friends of Bandrum Nursing Home is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) under charity number SC046676.

Our charitable purposes, as set out in our constitution, are:

  • to provide recreational activities and facilities that enhance the welfare and well-being of residents of Bandrum Nursing Home and their families and carers; and
  • to relieve those in need through a befriending scheme and other support for residents and their families and carers.

In plain terms, we exist to enrich the lives of the people who live at Bandrum, and to make sure that enrichment reaches everyone — particularly those whose funding would otherwise leave them out.

The home sits in woodland with sea views near Saline, in Fife — a beautiful but remote setting, which is part of why keeping our residents connected to the wider world matters so much to us.

Make a difference today

Your support, whether through donations or volunteering, directly impacts the quality of life for our residents. Help us create more accessible paths, provide festive joy, and build a stronger community. Every contribution counts.

"I am impressed by the quality and range of work made by the residents and I look forward to the fetes and art fairs where I can meet those who have made the items on sale".

"“The care and activities here help me so much. Being able to go shopping weekly helps me keep my independence and keeps me doing all the normal daily life things. Every week I have something to look forward to.”

How your donation helps
